Apollo Hylates, Apollo "of the woods", was the protector of Kourion, and his sanctuary was worshipped here from at least the 8th century BC until late Roman times. The corner of the 1st-century AD temple has been rebuilt, and its columns frame the sky dramatically.
Around it lie pilgrims' hostels, baths, a palaestra and storerooms, which give a vivid sense of a busy religious complex.
Good to know
It is usually quieter than Kourion and has more shade. Plan 45 minutes.
