Around 9,000 years ago, a farming community built a village of circular stone houses on this hillside above the Maroni river. A defensive wall protected it, and the dead were buried beneath the floors of their homes.

Near the entrance, five houses have been reconstructed using ancient techniques, giving a vivid sense of daily life. A path then climbs through the excavated settlement, with views over the valley.

Good to know

The path is steep in places and exposed to the sun. Bring water and sturdy shoes, and allow around an hour.
