The tekke marks the grave of Umm Haram, a woman whom tradition links closely to the family of the Prophet Muhammad. She is said to have died here in 649 after falling from her mule during an Arab raid. The mosque, its minaret and the surrounding buildings were completed by the Ottomans in the early 19th century.
With its domes reflected in the salt lake and flamingos often feeding nearby in winter, it is one of the most photogenic spots in Cyprus.
