Akrotiri Salt Lake
The largest inland body of water in Cyprus, a protected wetland where thousands of greater flamingos gather in winter.

The salt lake fills with rainwater in winter and dries to a white crust in summer. From roughly November to March it becomes a feeding ground for flamingos and many other migrating birds, and it is protected under the Ramsar Convention.
The Akrotiri Environmental Education Centre on the edge of the wetland has viewing points and information on local wildlife.
Good to know
Bring binoculars. Keep to tracks and viewpoints, as the lake bed is soft and the birds are easily disturbed.
