The museum of the Archbishop Makarios III Foundation displays hundreds of Cypriot icons from the 9th to the 19th century, tracing the island's own style of religious art.
It also shows works recovered after being looted from churches in the north after 1974, including fragments of the 6th-century apse mosaic of Panagia Kanakaria. The grand Archbishop's Palace and the frescoed Cathedral of St John stand next door.
