A fort was first built here in Byzantine times to protect the harbour. The Lusignans rebuilt it, and the Venetians dismantled it in 1570. The Ottomans then rebuilt it in 1592, and that is largely the castle you see today.
Inside there is a vaulted ground floor and a roof terrace with views across the harbour and the archaeological park. The square in front hosts open-air events, including the annual Pafos Aphrodite Festival opera.
Good to know
A visit takes about 20–30 minutes. Combine it with a harbourside walk and the archaeological park next door.
