The Larnaca Salt Lake complex fills with water in winter and dries to a glittering crust in summer. It is protected under the Ramsar Convention and Natura 2000, and from about November to March it draws thousands of flamingos along with ducks, waders and other migrants.
A flat nature trail runs along the shore between the Hala Sultan Tekke and the town side of the lake, with hides and viewing points along the way.
Good to know
Bring binoculars and stay on the trail. In summer the lake is mostly dry, but the sunsets over the salt flats are still special.
